For the second places, we go to Madeleine Cafe & Patisserie, located inside The Spring Mall in Kuching.

Historical Background of the shop

Madeleine Patisserie is originally first established in 2009 located Café Madeleine Sunway, Inside Sunway University(Next to Le Cordon Bleu) Jalan University Bandar Sunway Petaling Jaya. The chef who has great passion for good food began her culinary journey with a diploma from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu. Armed with the techniques from the world-class institution, she wants to share the love of good food.

Café Madeleine is born and the cafe keep their standards high. They are a lifestyle-driven café that combines the convenience with the charm and hospitality of a tasteful eatery. The cafe share the love of good food, exceptional good coffee and desserts made fresh daily.

The café features timeless French, Italian & local dishes revitalized with creative contemporary interpretations. House specialties include sumptuous pastas, hearty roasted chicken meals, toasted sandwiches and a variety of cakes and pastries.

The café incorporates passion for life, food and drinks and strives to create a warm and welcoming "home” outside your own home. Madeleine Cafe & Patisserie in Kuching Sarawak is established first week of November 2015 which located at Ground Floor of The Spring, is the latest addition in the shopping mall just opposite Watsons or next to Sushi King. Madeleine Cafe Patisserie, a place that serves French cuisine with an Italian and Asian twist, is the latest venture by the general manager and founder of the Madeleine Group of Companies.

It was a love for a small, buttery and unpretentious French sponge cake, combined with her passion for the French culinary arts that led to Miss Alina Hew starting the Madeleine Patisserie business. Alina Hew, Madeleine Cafe & Patisserie’s founder left a career in the telecommunications industry to enroll in the renowned Le Cordon Bleu culinary institute to pursue her dream. After graduating, Hew decided to venture into the food and beverage line. Alina Hew named her business Madeleine in hopes that people could enjoy food that is unpretentious and wholesome and she said of the name that was inspired by the French cake that she enjoyed. She armed with the techniques from the world-class institution, she wants to share the love of good food.

Historical Background of the main products sold

Madeleine(cake) are are distinctive shell-looked small sponge cake that are handcrafted made, baked and served freshly everyday for their customers to enjoy with the cafe specialty coffee. It is the most original traditional small cake from Commercy and Liverdun, two communes of the Lorraine region in northeastern France. The flavor of the sponge cake are similar but different with finer and lighter tastes which includes few ingredients such as very finely ground nuts and génoise cake batter.

A mid-morning or afternoon escape to the French countryside isn’t too far away with their handcrafted, signature vienoisserie. Indulge in the light layers of puff pastry, strawberries, and vanilla pastry cream of a freshly made Strawberry Napoleon. Or keep it simple with a warm-from-the-oven all-butter croissant and a café latte.

Value Proportion of the Madeleine Cafe & Patisserie

The shop environment and surroundings are decorated with French style interior design. While taking a bite of their croissant read or patisserie, it were a beautiful and comfortable places to have a tea-time with friends and family.

In the shop, they provide the lemon water for customers to drink which they can refill as many times they want.

Our Opinion About The Shop

We choose this shop as our research on hipster cafe because of their beautiful and yummy patisseries. Besides that, we also love croissant bread they sold. We had ordered a chocolate croissant bread which cost us only RM 5.90 per chocolate croissant bread. The taste of the croissant bread are awesome as the chocolate they use are dark chocolate and it tasted bittersweet and smell nice, the bread also very fluffy and soft.
